Choosing the Best Hair Restoration Procedure for You

Although supplements and medication may improve some hair loss cases, they can only do so much, especially if the hair loss is significant. For individuals struggling with hair loss, the most effective methods for hair restoration are surgical options. Surgical hair transplants are the most reliable way to restore one’s natural hair growth and provide natural-looking, permanent results.

With advanced hair transplant technologies available, patient satisfaction rate has only increased for surgical options. Many of these options are less invasive than hair transplant procedures of the past, and they also result in less scarring. Deciding which method is best for you will take research and consideration of the recommendations made by Dr. Chaffoo not a consultant.

During your consultation, Dr. Chaffoo will guide you through the various hair restoration options and examine your scalp. You will discuss the potential surgical options with Dr. Chaffoo. To learn more about the hair transplant technologies at California Hair MD, read on.

California Hair MD: Experts of Hair Restoration

The California Hair MD practice is the only hair restoration practice in the US to be supervised by a board-certified dermatologist and a triple board-certified plastic surgeon. California Hair MD serves patients from Southern California region and across the globe and has locations in La Jolla, Newport Beach, San Diego, and Beverly Hills.

FUT Hair Transplant

The Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) method is less advanced and more invasive as it requires that a strip of the scalp with hair follicles be removed from a donor area, typically the back of the head. From this point, hair follicles are parted from the skin tissue to be prepared for the hair transplant. Tiny punctures are placed in the treatment area. Once the grafts are ready, they are placed on the treatment site. The surgery can take many hours, and a long linear scar may be noticeable after healing. Patients who undergo FUT have significantly more pain, numbness, and swelling as compared to modern FUE techniques.

FUE Hair Transplant

Alternatively, you can pursue another hair transplantation method. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) can be used to address hair loss with less invasiveness. During the surgery, the hair follicles must be harvested (just as they are in FUT), but there is no need to remove any extra scalp tissue to collect hair follicles. Hair follicles are collected from the scalp, and tiny punctures are made at the treatment site. Since no tissue is being stripped away, there is no resulting linear scar or advanced recovery time. Scarring is minimized and many patients can wear their hair short after healing.

NeoGraft Hair Restoration

A type of FUE device that is more advanced is NeoGraft hair restoration. In this process, hair follicles are individually removed from the sides and the back of the head with the automated NeoGraft method. They are placed strategically in the thinning scalp areas to re-create a natural pattern of hair. The process is much faster than both FUE and FUT, and recovery time is also faster, allowing the individual to return to work the next day.
